Without Jakarta Earthquake epicenter

Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) said that Jakarta does not have the potential to be the epicenter or the epicenter. However, awareness of the impact of earthquakes in the vicinity continue to watch out for.

"Jakarta in history has no kegempaan Java earthquake epicenter. But Jakarta is affected by the earthquake that occurred in Java, such as earthquakes Pangandaran," said Deputy Minister Earth Sciences LIPI Dr. Hery Harjono a news conference at the Office of LIPI, Jakarta, Tuesday (6 / 10 ).

Hery said that Jakarta does not have the potential epicenter for Jakarta's position is not in an earth fault current plates. Although no potential to be the epicenter, Jakarta will be affected by the earthquake in Java, so the construction of infrastructure and buildings must also follow the rules of earthquake-resistant.

"But because of Jakarta there are many tall buildings, should be prepared disaster preparedness and anticipation of an earthquake," he said.

On that occasion, Hery explain and predict the possibility of an earthquake that would occur in Lampung, Bengkulu and South Sumatra. Three areas, said Hery, has the potential to shift power from the Earth's plates that have not been reduced by previous earthquakes, such as West Sumatra earthquake and the earthquake in Sungai Penuh, Jambi.

"We're not scaring people. We bring this to the community aware and prepared to face an earthquake," he said.

Scientific Services Deputy Director Prof. LIPI January Sopaheluwakan said that the community preparedness to cope with disasters such as earthquakes need to be increased because of the potential earthquake will still exist.

"We must continue to seek community preparedness in facing the earthquake because of the potential for disaster will continue to happen," he said.
